Weekly Reflection:
How does your recipe fit within the Australian guide to healthy eating?
This dish contains wheat from the rice and breadcrumbs, dairy from cheese, mozzarella and butter. It also contains meat from the ham, as well as egg yolk. The dish is quite healthy because it doesn't contain too much carbohydrates and dairy products for a daily meal.
How did you delegate the tasks during the cook with your partner?
My partner collected all the ingredients, while I cooked the rice. My partner then diced the ham whilst finished cooking the rice with stock. Then I added Parmesan cheese, dried basil and egg to a bowl with the cooked rice. My partner followed up to mix the remaining products into the bowl with the rice. After a good amount of time, my partner and I began to shape the mixture of rice into small curly balls onto a plate. After waiting for the balls to dry, my partner and I proceeded to the final step to deep-fry the arancini balls to obtain the final product.
What aspects of this cook did you find difficult and how did you overcome these?
I found that trying to speed up our production and work rate might have been challenging, because we only completed the dish around 5 minutes before timeout. I overcame this problem by using my cooking time more efficiently and maintaining a good flow of speed while cooking.
What aspects of this cook did you enjoy and why? Elaborate on your 5 star rating:
This dish was rated a 5 out of 5. This decision was made mainly because of the rich taste and the elegant texture of he arancini balls, which added favoured my attention. I enjoyed this cook as much as the Mini Beef Sliders because they were both rich in taste. I enjoyed the fact that there were lots of food and a different variant of food to cook with rather than the traditional Australian foods.
What new skills did you learn this week?
In my third ever time of cooking, I learned how to cook vegetables and use the deep-fryer. I learned how to cook rice without making it sticky.
A brief history of this dish, 50 -100 words (where did it originate from etc):
Arancini balls were said to have originated in 10th-century in Sicily (Italy), at a time when the island was under Arab rule. In the cities of Palermo, Siracusa, and Trapani in Sicily, arancini balls were a traditional food for the feast of Santa Lucia on 13 December when bread and pasta are not eaten.
