Weekly Reflection:
How does your recipe fit within the Australian guide to healthy eating?
This dish contains many vegetables such as onions, carrots, broccoli, peas, zucchini, with pieces of potatoes, curry powder, egg and small pastry and more. This dish contains many healthy nutrients and would fit well into the Australian guide to healthy eating because of it's nutritious fillings.
How did you delegate the tasks during the cook with your partner?
I collected some of the ingredients, and started to begin the process with my partner. I used a peeler to peel the potato and cut it into large pieces. My partner helped with slicing the onions, broccoli and zucchini's. i began to heat up the onions to a browny, caramel colour, whilst my partner began to slice the carrots and place the peas into a bowl with tomato. After the onions were cooked, we added the rest of the vegetables, my partner began to prepare the pastry. After the vegetables were cooked, I placed the fillings onto the pastry and neatly folded each of the pasties to make the final product.
What aspects of this cook did you find difficult and how did you overcome these?
I found that trying to speed up our production and work rate might have been challenging, because we only completed the dish around 3 minutes before timeout. I overcame this problem by using my cooking time more efficiently and maintaining a good flow of speed while cooking.
What aspects of this cook did you enjoy and why? Elaborate on your 5 star rating:
This dish was rated a 4 out of 5. This decision was made mainly because of the texture of the meal that was produced from a 60 minutes of time. However, I didn't really enjoy the meal as much as the Mini Beef Sliders. I enjoyed the fact that there were lots of food to cook compared to the mini beef sliders.
What new skills did you learn this week?
In my second ever time of cooking, I learned how to cook vegetables and use oven in safe conditions. I learned how cut onions without getting tears from the chemical properties of the food.
A brief history of this dish, 50 -100 words (where did it originate from etc):
The first ever pasties came to the United States when Cornish miners immigrated there in the 1840s. The dish can be dated all the way back to 1150 in England. The pasties gained popularity with miners because it was easy to bring into the mines. The meal also kept them full throughout the long working hours, and could be stored at high temperatures throughout the day (up to 10 hours).
